Before you start

  • A receiver connected and sending positions. If it won't connect, see the receiver won't connect.
  • An RTK-capable receiver and an NTRIP account from a correction provider, or a receiver that gets corrections on its own.

Open Settings and tap Location source. Two things on the receiver screen tell you most of the story:

  • Position type: Standard means no corrections are being used. RTK float means corrections arrive, but the receiver hasn't resolved its solution yet. RTK fixed is the goal.
  • The line under RTK corrections: whether corrections are reaching the receiver.

Reconnecting to correction serviceThe connection dropped. The app is trying again. Check the phone's signal.

Time since last correction shows how old the latest correction is. It should keep dropping back to a second or two. If it keeps climbing, corrections have stopped.

When corrections can't reach the receiver

Dipper Field gets corrections over the phone's internet connection and passes them to the receiver. That needs a way to write to the receiver:

  • This receiver has not offered a channel to write corrections to. Connect Corrections stays grayed out. The receiver's Bluetooth connection only sends positions. Check the receiver's settings for an RTCM input on Bluetooth, or let the receiver get its own corrections.
  • This Bluetooth connection can read positions but cannot send RTK corrections to the receiver. Same cause, shown under the section.
  • Port 10110 carries positions only, so the phone cannot send RTK corrections to the receiver over it. On Wi-Fi, connect to a port that accepts corrections, if the receiver has one, or let the receiver get its own corrections.
  • Corrections dropped appears under Technical details when the link to the receiver couldn't keep up or dropped. Keep the phone close to the receiver.

When the receiver gets its own corrections

  • Receiver fetches its own corrections; this device standing by. A Dipper receiver is getting corrections over its own Wi-Fi. If it still doesn't fix, check its correction settings under Device NTRIP Settings.
  • The receiver is already being corrected by another source. Corrections from this device are paused. The receiver has corrections from elsewhere, such as its own modem or radio. Check that source in the receiver's own settings.

Give it sky and time

  • Use a mount point near you. The farther the base station, the slower and less reliable the fix. Pick the nearest one your provider offers, or a network mount point that builds corrections for your position. Dipper Field sends the receiver's position to the service for that.
  • Get a clear view of the sky. Trees, buildings, vehicles and your own body block satellites. Hold the pole straight up, away from walls.
  • Wait. Going from RTK float to RTK fixed can take from a few seconds to a few minutes. Hold still while it settles.
  • Check the satellites. Satellites used on the receiver screen shows how many satellites the receiver is using. A low count usually means the sky view is blocked.
